The first requirement in creating a business relationship is to establish trust. As a first step in doing that I would like to make you aware of my educational background so that you can feel comfortable that I have the knowledge necessary to provide you competent service.  Here it is:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from UMass - Amherst – 1967
  • Master’s degree in business from Suffolk University – Boston – 1980
  • Annually took required continuing education classes in new tax laws
  • Passed the IRS RTRP (Registered Tax Return Preparer) exam in June 2012
You’re probably wondering what the IRS RTRP exam is?
This is a new requirement passed by Congress in 2011 requiring most accountants who file returns to prove their competence by taking and passing a 3 hour exam containing 120 questions involving established tax law, tax changes and ethics. Originally anyone required to take this exam had to pass it by 12/31/13 or they could no longer file returns. Since then the IRS’s authority to require this exam has been questioned and the courts are taking a look at it. The expectations are that it will once again become required which will be a good thing for the profession and especially for taxpayers, insuring they will get competent service
